The war never ends with sergeant Don Collier, who survived the African desert and the Normandy beaches. Charismatic leader of a handful of soldiers of different extraction and different character, Don is sent on mission behind enemy lines and inside a Sherman tank. Lost in a clash with their shooter, recruited Norman Ellison, a young soldier uncomfortable with war and violence. Renamed by his Wardaddy team, Don takes care of a boy’s father, who begins with the rudiments of war with orthodox methods. Advancing against the enemy, knocking it down and surviving it promotes confidence and camaraderie among the men of Don, who impiously decided to follow him in one last attempt against three hundred German soldiers. A last line armed before freedom and peace.

 

UNBROKEN – USA – 2014 – Original title Unbroken – A movie by Angelina Jolie. With Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, Jai Countney – duration 130 min. Louis Zamperini is an American mid-range champion. Son of Immigrant Italians and Olympic runner at the Berlin Olympics in 1936, four years later Zamperini was recruited into the Air Force as a bomber on a B-24 Liberator. In 1942, during a recovery mission on the Pacific Ocean, its B-24 crashed, halving its crew. Survived along with two compatriots, Zamperini resides in the sea for forty-seven days, eating raw fish and dodging the blows of Japanese air machine guns. Retrieved from the enemy navy is led to a prison camp, where he soon becomes hostage to Watanabe’s sadism, a perverted sergeant with the stick’s vice and humiliation. Two more years will have to pass before Zamperini regains his freedom, returning to his homeland and his loved ones.

 

ADMIRAL – RUS – 2008 – An Andrey Kravchuk film. With Konstantin Khabenskiy, Elizaveta Boyarskaya, Sergey Bezrukov, Vladislav Vetrov, Anna Kovalchuk, Egor Beroev and Richard Bohringer – duration 124 min. The story of Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak, faithful to his swearing in the Tsar, and therefore struggling to fight the Bolsheviks in the White Revolution in the October Revolution, the spectacular naval battles intersect with the sentimental story that sees – already a faithful father and husband – to fall in love with Anna Timireva, his best friend’s wife.

 

RED TAILS – USA – 2010 – Original title Red Tails – An Anthony Hemingway movie. With Terrence Howard, Daniela Ruah, Bryan Cranston, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tristan Wilds. – duration 118 min. 1944. In spite of the resistance of the US Army’s leadership, which still lacks racism,Colonel AJ Bullard (Terrence Howard) succeeded with the Tuskegee project to create the first African-American air force squadron headed by the Major Emanuel Stance (1944), despite the resistance of the US Army leadership, Cuba Gooding, Jr.), with the support of a Pentagon officer, his longtime friend succeeds in assigning an operational mission to Tuskegee in Italy. The squadron will provide air support to a military operation called Shingle, organized by armed forces against the Axis forces in the Anzio and Neptune areas, which will aim to circumvent the German forces and capture the city of Rome.

With Matthias Schweighöfer, Til Schweiger, Lena Headey, Joseph Fiennes, Volker Bruch. – duration 120 min Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Matthias Schweighofer) is the most dreaded and celebrated pilot of the German Luftwaffe during the First World War. For him, air combat is also technical challenge, almost as sporting evidence, away from the thought of the terrible consequences of war. But after having fallen in love with nurse Kate (Lena Headey), Manfred questions about her responsibility for her work.

 

PEARL HARBOR – USA – 2001 – Original title Pearl Harbor – A movie by Michael Bay. With Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Alec Baldwin, Jon Voight. – duration 160 min On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and destroyed much of the American fleet. The US took the tough and prodigious blow and went into war. A good part of the film tells the attack at Pearl, using a media like never before, and even with a good result of truth. It’s definitely the best part of the movie. So how is the US retaliation attack on Tokyo, in 1942. The private is instead focused on the lives of Rafe (Affleck) and Danny (Hartnett) that we see, still children, bumping into an old biplane, then become pilots and finally fall in love with the same woman.
